A Prayer for July

trust and rest prayers for 2020.jpg

Our theme for 2020 is "Trust & Rest." This is especially timely in these days in which we currently find ourselves. Please join us in trusting and resting in our faithful God as you pray this prayer of trust with us.

Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.

Psalm 116:7

Lord, we thank you that you are a God who refreshes our souls with stillness and rest. Thank you for being a good Father who delights in us. Being with you feels like a respite from the world around us as we delight in the joy that accompanies your presence and the calm that comes with submitting to your will. We repent of attempting to accomplish everything in our own power, and recognize that we can do nothing apart from you. We repent of our vain efforts of self-righteousness, struggles with indwelling sin, our distractions and our wandering ways. Bring us back to that place where we have a quiet confidence in you, O God.

Help us, Lord, to also love others in this way. We desire for others to find respite in our presence as we find peace in yours. We pray that the poor, vulnerable and disabled might feel safe, loved and treasured by your Church, as this is how you make us feel. Direct and guide us to create inclusive communities in your church so that the vulnerable and disabled experience your healing touch and care through us. Lord, we long collectively to find our true rest through returning to your embrace. We also desire to emulate this kind of restful embrace when caring for the poor, vulnerable and disabled. Help us to truly love each other in ways that foster peace, calm, and rest, like your love does for us.

In the name of Jesus, in whom we find our true purpose and rest, we pray. Amen.
