You can help support women in Sierra Leone right in your own backyard! We solely depend on charitable donations from our partners and investors- and hosting a fundraiser will directly support women with disabilities in Sierra Leone. Jesus has called us ALL to fulfill the Great Commission, “making disciples of all nations” – and inviting people to join you in supporting this ministry is a valuable way to serve God and help the women of Sierra Leone.
What Can I Do to Raise Funds?
Here’s a few ideas that can be adapted to fit your interests and social circles! Before you begin, please let us know about your fundraising efforts so we can help communicate our mission to everyone involved. Once you have contacted us, you’ll receive additional information about our 501c3 (non-profit) status and how donors can receive a tax deduction for giving to the ministry. We will also provide you with any informational materials about Women of Hope International that you might need. Thank you for partnering with us for the Kingdom!
Simple + Effective (Shortest Involvement Needed)
Let your friends & family know all you want for your birthday is to provide for what women in Africa NEED! Instead of scrambling to find gifts, ask friends & family to donate to Women of Hope’s ministry. What a great way to partner together in bringing awareness and resources to help us serve our women well!
If you have a good relationship with a corporation/business, approach them for small amounts of money to meet specific needs. Top level managers often have up to $1,000 in discretionary funds which they can release without internal approval!
Garage Sales/Bake Sales/Car Washes/Etc.
Car washes, bake sales, neighborhood garage sales, or even a WOHI t-shirt drive are all great ways to easily raise support and awareness! Your women’s ministry, Sunday School, high school, PTA, neighbors, or any other group can work together to help transform women’s lives in Sierra Leone.
Invite friends to a dessert night. The invitation explains that they will enjoy wonderful desserts, learn about Women of Hope International, and be asked (but not pressured) to make a contribution. Provide incentives for those who give a donation (i.e. take-home dessert, something from Sierra Leone, etc.) before they leave. Have someone speak briefly or give a presentation about the ministry.
You can sell beautiful products made by Sierra Leonean women at your very own Hope Party! It’s similar to home parties like Tupperware or Mary Kay, but allows you to support these women and their children- just by shopping. Get more details here.
Christian Music Artist
Find an artist who will adopt Women of Hope International as their project, raising financial support and awareness during concerts, etc. They can also promote the Partners in Hope project, asking fans to sponsor a woman in our program!
Some Planning Required (Moderate Involvement Needed)
Sponsor a community auction for Women of Hope International. Auction items can be donated by local individuals (i.e. artists), stores, or other organizations for the event. Include some expensive items to attract more buyers. A community auction can be combined with another event such as a festival, dance, or golf tournament. Ask a local restaurant/caterer to donate food as well!
A mystery party is a very popular event and a lot of fun for donors! Parties can be held in private homes or at public sites. Food for the event is donated by local businesses, and games can be purchased or donated. Participants will often pay up to $50 to attend.
Charity Dress Sale
Collect gently used formal/casual dresses. Advertise a $10 Charity Dress Sale at springtime, especially to high school and college students who may be attending formals. This event requires great publicity, but is a good way to include many people and raise awareness!
Big Events = Big Impact (Higher Involvement Needed)
These events are great ways to partner with the community and reach a larger group of participants! Great promotion is essential- the better the advertising, the more participants. Participants pre-register and obtain pledges before the event. Encourage clubs/groups to participate since they represent many people. Prizes can be donated by community businesses (which receive publicity by becoming a donor) Remember, this event is weather-dependent- but indoor back-ups can be available
Celebrity golf tournaments can be very successful, especially if you include a dinner, dance, or auction as part of the event! It may take more than one tournament before you see substantial profits. Celebrities need to be recruited far in advance for the event- but golfers may pay large fees for the privilege of playing with a celebrity! An event of this type needs a strong community base, wealthy donors and buyers, and a professional team of volunteers.
Black Tie Bowling
This event can be very creative and really get the community involved! Have a bowling alley sponsor a “black tie” bowling event, closing their doors to the public for the evening. Each participant dresses in a “black tie” costume from the waist up, and in any style they’d like from the waist down. Event planners organize the teams and can invite local businesses to sponsor certain lanes, adding to the competition. The cost for each participant can vary up to $40 per person, depending on what the bowling alley or other businesses will contribute toward the event. Provide food as part of the evening and give prizes for best and worst costumes/bowlers, etc. This event can be really successful if you have a good group of volunteers!
